Scribehow-A new technology tool for me!
This week as I was looking through some new technology tools that fellow students wrote about I knew I had to try out Scribehow. Scribehow is an AI tool that captures your screen to create step by step instructional handouts. It is easy to sign up and just as easy to use. This tool will be added as an extension to your browser when creating an account. After clicking "capture a scribe" you can see the steps in your instructions being recorded on the side of your screen. One can easily pause and delete steps in a Scribe, which is what I needed to do when creating my first Scribe.
I have a son living out of state who will be attending school in the Fall. He has limited access and time to the University's website to learn how to register for classes. I used this tool to create instructions so when he registers for classes in a few weeks he will know how to do it. After recording the first Scribe (or instructional handout) I seamlessly emailed it to him. Other options to share the Scribe included the option to export the Scribe or create an embedded link. The embedded link is helpful for one to use in a lengthy document, website etc.
I shared this tool with my husband who teaches an online course at a private university. He has 100+ students in his class with most of them residing out of the United States, mostly in Africa. It is common for foreign students to struggle with the assignments, with a number of them reaching out for one-on-one help completing assignments. Though his course is written out very well the cultural and language barrier has proven difficult for many students. Using Scribehow would offer another way for students to learn. Having pictures and step-by-step instructions would cater to those whose first language is not English.
The ease of creating and sharing instructions as well as providing another way for individuals to learn are just two of the main reasons I like this tool. Within your account each Scribe that you create will be saved. This allows one easy access to share each Scribe with others as the need arises instead of creating a new Scribe. This will be a tool I hope to see my husband use in his class and one I look forward to using in the future.
